History of Moosic Lakes
Moosic Lakes’ history is a fascinating tale that began long before it became the peaceful residential community it is today. Originally, the area atop Moosic Mountain served as a premier destination for leisure and excitement in Northeastern Pennsylvania. In the early 1900s, Moosic Lakes was home to a vibrant amusement park. Families from across the region would travel to the summit—the highest elevation in Lackawanna County—to enjoy a variety of attractions including rowing on the spring-fed waters, grand pavilions, and even a mountain-top roller coaster.
Over time, the roar of the amusements gave way to the quiet rustle of the surrounding woodlands. The Moosic Lakes Club was founded to steward the natural beauty of the area, transitioning the site into the private sanctuary enjoyed by residents today. This evolution from a lively resort to a tranquil forested retreat has shaped our community's unique identity. The historic cottages and archival glimpses of the old shoreline serve as a cherished reminder of the timeless appeal of Moosic Mountain and our collective responsibility to preserve its serene environment for future generations.
